Seattle is a wonderful city bursting with life and adventure around every corner. It has something for every age group, activity level and interest. Opening Day 2017 in the Emerald City

by Donna McCampbell

We have all battled the winter months and spring is finally here! Summer is just on the horizon, which brings life to the outdoor activities we cherish. Hiking, biking, exploring, and boating - the list goes on and on.

On Saturday May 6, 2017 the Seattle Yacht Club hosts the 97th Opening Day! What does this mean? Well for residents of the Seattle area this means more than boating season is back again... it's wrapped in tradition and festivities that call for a day filled celebration!

In the morning festivities start crew and sail boat races, while everyone waits in anticipation for the main event. At 12:00PM, the Opening Day Parade begins officially launching boating season. The blast of a cannon and the raising of the Montlake Bridge become music to our ears, and signal to all the fun ahead. Yachts are decorated with the theme of "The Wonderful Wizards of Aahs!" and spectators enjoy the beauty the waters have to offer.

Opening Day in Seattle has become a traditional family affair. If you are a boat owner, you decorate your boats for the festivities. Blankets are spread for day-long picnics on the shoreline. This is an event you won't want to miss!

Explore the Serene Beauty of Washington's Nature

by Donna McCampbell

National Parks are made around the nation to preserve the genuine beauty and history that nature has to offer. The extraordinary ecosystems have intertwined every day for millions of years to create the breathtaking mountains, forests, lakes, and springs we love today.

Not many of us take the time to disconnect from the busy schedules and lives we live. National Park Service is turning 100 years old this year and they are offering specific days throughout the year for all to venture out and enjoy the parks for free

April 15-16 and April 22-23 are part of National Park Week and 4 of the days where everyone far and wide can head out to one of the 400+ National Parks and receive free entrance. Not only are national parks free entrance, but some local museums are available to the public as well.

Take this opportunity to get out and expand your knowledge of the nature and history that we take for granted every day.
